Heather Parsons

Heather began her career in the animal industry by working in a shelter and as an animal protection officer, working on-call/overnight for any emergencies. This early exposure to shelter life gave her a great respect for the role of proper nutrition and preventative medicine in a vulnerable population. She went on to spend several years working veterinary clinics where she learned, first-hand, how critical the role of communication between the veterinary team and the pet owner is in facilitating a high standard of care. She continued to learn about the importance of nutrition in overall health.

She moved on to work in the veterinary industry, spending 16 years working in pet nutrition, with a primary focus on veterinary nutrition. She worked on the launch of many pivotal, unique products that changed the nutrition landscape. Beginning as a sales representative, Heather went on to manage several teams in both sales and marketing, before leading a Canadian veterinary nutrition company as President for 4 years.

Most recently, Heather has run her own consulting business (On The Spot Consulting) where she specializes in supporting start-up companies, or established companies launching new lines.

Throughout her career, Heather has pursued continuing education including completing a diploma in Veterinary Hospital Management, and an MBA.

She is extremely passionate about pet health and the products that help us care for our beloved pets. She shares her home with 6 dogs; 3 Dalmatians with whom she is VERY active in various sports and competitions, her husband’s beloved Irish Red and White Setter, and their two precious seniors, and Italian Greyhound and a Pomeranian

Intertwined throughout her career is Dr. Armstrongs’s love of sharing information and the connection with each veterinary team member along the way. To date, clinical pathology, nutrition and internal medicine persist as her three areas of inspiration and consultation.

Dr. Julie Armstrong

Dr. Armstrong graduated with distinction in 1996 from WCVM in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  A private practice medicine and surgery internship took her to West Hartford Connecticut.

Returning to WCVM in 1997 for her residency, she went on to become board certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine as well as complete a Masters of Veterinary Science.

In 2000, Dr. Armstrong complimented the outstanding medicine team at the Ontario Veterinary College for the following 4 years.

In 2004 Dr. Armstrong joined Medi-cal/Royal Canin, thrilled to be working under the mentorship of Dr. Doreen Houston.

Dr. Armstrong and her family returned to her home province of British Columbia in 2008. From there she worked part time for Boundary Bay Veterinary Specialty Practice. The close proximity, expertise and collegiality of the pathologists working at True North Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory provided an opportunity to pursue a long love of clinical pathology starting in 2011.

Having left private practice, a path to provide part time nutrition and internal medicine consultation emerged once again with the unique and select team at Rayne Clinical Nutrition in 2014 until 2018.
